Photos of our first Medical Mission

These photos are extremely graphic

Eye surgery being performed on 15 year old Antonio.

Antonio’s surgery was to repair the results of a previous procedure which left a terrible scar on his cheek below the eye orbit. The operation included realigning the eye so it appears symmetrical with the other. It was done under local anesthesia and Antonio spoke with us throughout the surgery.

This 14 year old girl presented with tumors on her left cheek and above her left eye socket. These tumors developed when she was just a few months old. Being unable to afford medical care, she had never seen a doctor for this condition and, as a result, the tumors grew with her.

The procedure involved surgically peeling back her facial skin and exposing the subcutaneous layers where the surgical excision took place.

The surgery was delicate, and extreme care had to be taken to prevent permanent damage to her sight, hearing, nerves and facial expressions. Two segments of the extremely large tumor can be seen.

The team of three surgeons worked for more than 8 hours on this very complex surgery. Their goal was to restore the girl's natural looks and provide her with a life of normalcy which had evaded her until now.
